Out and About...and a new project
Today I was in the confines of a rink. I'm hoping before too many weeks pass I will be able to get up to the lake and sail over it's vast openness.
Today while skating, I realized that during the week I get so caught up in the routine of waking up, going to work, coming home from work, making dinner, doing all of the little things that need to get done, going to bed, and repeating that for the next 4 days, that I forget how important it is to make opportunities for myself to get outside and have some fun during the week. I need to work on remembering to live, really live, all the time, not just on the weekends.
On a different note...for awhile I have been wanting to create some sort of album/scrapbook/documentation of the things that I make. Something that says when I started and finished the project, who it was for, any special meaning behind the project etc. I've printed out photos of some of my knitting projects and bought a 12x12 scrapbook, but I'm not entirely sure how I want to go about it...
I'm not sure if I want to have all crafts together and arranged chronologically or if I want to put all sewing projects/quilts etc. together, knitting together, and so on? I also don't know what I want to do as far as embellishment goes. What seems like forever ago I was very into scrapbooking, so I don't know that I would be satisfied with a plain page, but I also want it to be easy enough to keep up with over time.
I'd love for this little project be a place of reference for me, but also something that can be passed down someday when all of the things I have made have been separated from each other or loved to bits and shreds. One of my great great grandmother's was very crafty, she made beautiful quilts, knitted items, and embroidered samplers. I wish that there had been some record of the things that she had made over the years, that her creativity had been documented. Has anyone ever made an album like this? I'd love any and all suggestions!

Hi Erica...found your blog through Elise Blaha's comment section - you have taken some gorgeous, gorgeous pictures! Enjoyed looking thru your site.
ReplyDeleteHere's an idea - use a 3 ring binder, use large envelopes (like 9X11), store your pattern and all the details inside and on the outside of the envelope some of your pictures of the project. You could add as much or as little embelishments as you wish on the outside....plus the 3 ring binder will give you the flexibility to move things around until you decide how you want to categorize your projects. I can see how this would look in my head and I think I've talked myself into trying it for all of my varied projects!
Hi Joanne! Thanks for stopping by!! I really like the idea of including the pattern with the photos and being able to move the projects around, at least at first, until I figure out what order works best for me. Thanks for the suggestions! If you end up putting together a project binder I'd love to see pictures of the finished product! I hope you'll visit again soon! :)
